ISME, the Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association, today (March 31st) condemns the secondary picketing by Bus Eireann workers of Dublin Bus and Iarnród Éireann depots. The Association calls for an immediate end to these wildcat actions, and for the unions involved to instruct their members to desist from future actions.
ISME, CEO, Neil McDonnell said, “Today’s illegal actions affected tens of thousands of businesses, employees and general commuters, who had no notice they would not have public transport this morning.”
“Businesses are missing staff this morning. Retailers will lose tens of thousands of euro. Thousands of workers have been forced to pay taxi-fares to get to work. Workers who resort to wildcat action have lost the argument and conceded that their cause is unjust. There are no winners today.”
“We ask employees affected by strike action to contact their employers in good time and inform them of any disruption. Once unions have condoned wildcat strike action, it is important for employers and business owners to prepare contingency plans for the continued running of their businesses. ”
