What is Perspectives 360?
Perspectives 360 is a simple and effective management skills assessment system designed with SMEs in mind. It is based on the UK National Occupational Standards for Management. It provides managers with an invaluable insight into how they are perceived by the people who know them best in a work situation - their colleagues. As a result of the assessment, managers receive a detailed report on their skills, which is used as the basis of a one-to-one feedback meeting with a trained facilitator. It is at this stage that an individual action plan is developed.
How does Perspectives 360 work?
Using a questionnaire containing seventy-five management behaviour statements, managers complete an on-line self-assessment questionnaire, taking around 10 – 15 minutes to complete. A number of other people also assess each manager: Ideally someone senior (x 1), subordinates or team members (x 3 - 4) and a colleague or a peer (x1). This provides a complete picture of how other people perceive the manager’s skills, which is then compared to their own perception of their skills in a Specific Skills Profile.
Is it confidential?
Yes, each manager will receive an 8 page report containing a Specific Skills Profile, an explanation of the assessment and a set of twenty-five suggestions on ways of improving their management skills. The Specific Skills Profile will show the self-assessment with the combined assessment of the people who also completed the questionnaire – it will not be possible to see the scores given by each of the other individuals who have completed the questionnaire. The respondents may be chosen by the manager or by their employer. Whoever selects the respondents, the answers will remain confidential.
What is involved?
You will need to submit the names and e-mail address of the managers you would like to take part in the project. They will then be asked to submit the names and email addresses of the others who will also complete the questionnaire. Each person will be sent an email containing a link to the website and a username and password. The online questionnaire will take no more than 15 minutes to complete. Once all of the questionnaires have been completed, the Facilitator will contact each manager to book a time for the feedback session. This will take no more than 60 minutes. During the feedback session, the Facilitator will explain the report and discuss the suggested development actions with the manager, resulting in the production of a simple action plan for performance improvement. The manager will also be provided with a copy of the report to keep and refer to in the future.
Engaging managers from SMEs in practical, innovative and qualification based training is a challenge across Europe. This EU funded project aimed to transfer the use of a 360 management skills assessment tool, Perspectives 360, from the UK to 5 European countries, resulting in the assessment of 300 SME managers and the development of the European Management Skills Benchmark Database. The project hoped to enhance the attractiveness of VET, and the use of innovating ICT-based VET assessment practices and should impact on the performance of SMEs/SME managers. This transnational project ran from Oct 2010 to Sept 2012 and was delivered by ETA (UK/PO), ISME (Ireland), KADIS (Slovenia), CP (Greece), CIDaf (Romania) , KNO (Slovakia) with CMI (UK).
