Trad for Trócaire is a hugely successful partnership between Trócaire and Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann that celebrates Ireland’s deep musical heritage and our long-history of goodwill towards people facing poverty.
Trad for Trócaire was born after the devastating Haiti earthquake in 2010 when well-known trad band, The Usual Suspects, busked from Dublin to Galway collecting donations to help Trócaire carry out vital emergency work and rebuilding projects, in exchange for top quality trad music.
2014 marks the fifth year of Trad for Trócaire. Over 1,300 Trad events have taken place across Ireland and also in the UK and USA. Over €500,000 has been raised by passionate and enthusiastic musicians and trad fans- young and old alike!
Throughout the developing world, Trócaire, with support from Comhaltas, is helping vulnerable communities to overcome extreme poverty and hunger.
This year the focus country for the Trad campaign is Zimbabwe Your Trad for Trócaire session can make a huge difference to the lives of families in Zimbabwe.
Climate change has led to long periods of drought and made rainfall unpredictable. Many farming families are no longer able to produce enough food to feed their families or earn a living. As a consequence, they also struggle to gain access to healthcare and education.
The Funds raised by Trad for Trócaire sessions can and do make a great difference. For example: €60 can provide 4 families with a 10kg bag of maize for planting, €100 can buy 4 goats to begin generating income by breeding livestock and €380 can supply the complete tool kit for borehole repairs to maintain the waterworks
Together we can support vulnerable families to adapt to this changing climate, getting much-needed water to their land and training in new farming practices.
