ISME calls for investigation into all utility prices.
ISME, Wednesday 14th January 2015.
At the announcement of the Eircom price increases today (14th January), ISME, the Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association, criticised the decision to introduce price rises at a time when small businesses are still struggling to regain profitibility. The Association expressed disappointment at the excessive and opportunistic price increases and warned that high utility costs are threatening competitiveness.
Mark Fielding, ISME CEO, commented, ‘The average Eircom price increase is approximately 7% for a business customer. This is completely unjustified considering the fact that inflation is currently at 0.1%. There is a danger that this could lead to a domino effect of utility price increases across the board. This development is a further blow to business owners who are still paying exorbitant energy costs despite the massive drop in oil prices.”
The Association called on the Government to launch an immediate investigation into all utility prices effecting small businesses to ensure proper competitive costs for SMEs in the fight for survival.
