Overview

The introduction of the General Data Protection Regulations, and the new Data Protection Act 2018 on 25th May 2018 has brought the issue of Data Protection and Security in the workplace to the fore.  As such, ensuring the personal data of your employees, customers, clients, suppliers etc. has never been more important.   Data Protection legislation provide individuals with certain rights as regard to the protection and use of personal data. In addition, obligations and responsibilities are imposed on those persons capturing and processing such data. As an employer, you need to be aware of your obligations and responsibilities and ensure that data is stored and used in accordance with the provisions set out in the legislation.  ISME provides a Guide to GDPR for all members which can be accessed in the members area here

  • Definitions:
    Provides legal clarity on the usage of data protection terminology
  • Enforcement:
    Section 10 of the Data Protection Acts, 1988 and 2003, provides the data commissioner with legal responsibility for enforcing the acts.  This section outlines the responsibilities of the Data Commissioner in terms of enforcing the act
  • Legal Responsibilities of Data Controllers:
    There are certain key responsibilities in relation to the information with is processed. There are eight date protection rules summarized within this section
  • Limitations on the Right of Access to Personal Data:
    There are certain restrictions upon the right of access.  Details on the restrictions can be found within this section
